Porsche 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid concept gets 78 mpg and hits 62 mph in 3.2 seconds.
Porsche is looking to prove the best of both worlds don't have to be exclusive with the new 918 Spyder concept debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. It is looking like a Carrera GT evolved, the Porsche 918 Spyder is powered by a 500-horsepower V8 and 2 electric motors (one for each axle) that are together producing an additional 218 hp or 160kW. The concept can theoretically reach 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds and finish at 198 mph on the high end. Porsche says it can achieve 78 miles per gallon and emit only 70 grams of CO2 / kilometer.

The 918 Spyder concept is a parallel hybrid like Prius . Its two powertrains, gas + electric, can work together or separately to move the wheels into motion. There are four modes that configure the powertrains from maximum efficiency to maximum performance. The E-Drive mode is pure electric power, and the car can last up to 16 miles on electrons alone. Next is Hybrid mode, which is for everyday around town driving. The Sport Hybrid mode uses both powertrains, but its more towards performance with most power for the rear wheels. The Race Hybrid mode is all systems go for the lowest lap times possible (Porsche says Nordschleife in less than 7:30 minutes).

Interior : Porsche says it offers a glimpse at future interiors.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS celebrated its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in last October.

The 911 Carrera GTS combines the 44 millimetre wider Porsche Carrera 4 body of the AWD models plus a wider track with a classic rear-wheel drive. There are more details which distinguish appearance and technology of this brand new GTS from other Carrera models. For instance, the new GTS runs on 19-inch centre-mount RS Spyder wheels, painted in black, with high-gloss finish rim flanges and 305/30 ZR 19 tyres on the rear axle.

Porsche 911er GT3

The Porsche 911er GT3 is a high performance version of Porsche 911 sports car. It is the latest model in a long line of high performance cars which began with the 1973 Porsche 911 RS. The GT3 is named after the FIA GT class which was intended for. It has a 3.8 litre naturally-aspirated 6 cylinder engine based on the unit was used in the Porsche 962 and 911 GT1 race cars.

Since it's launch back in 1999 many of variations were designed for road and track. Those have been added to the range. The current range of 997 includes 2 road and 3 racing models. Also, Porsche is currently developing a new hybrid version which uses two electric engines plus a Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems initially developed for Formula One.

The Porsche GT3 has had a very successful racing career in the one make national Porsche Carrera Cup series, the international Porsche Supercup and won a lot of championship and endurance races plus the GT class of the American Le Mans Series 7 times, the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours Nürburgring 5 times.

Every time I see one of these long, emotional Porsche commercials, I instantly want a 911 more than anything else. Then I settle down a little and think, "Well, I would really prefer a Porsche Cayman, especially given the cost." Then after more time goes by and I start to after about a week back to dreaming about a some usual cheaper car like normal. Then I see one of these commercials again. Repeat.

Porsche 911 history

The Porsche 911 (pronounced Nine Eleven, German: Neunelfer or 911er) is a 2-door sports coupe made by Porsche AG of Stuttgart from Germany. It has a unique design, rear engine and independent rear suspension. The 911er engine was also air-cooled until the Type 996 in 1998. Since 911 introduction in autumn 1963, it has undergone continuous development. But the basic concept has remained almost unchanged throughout its evolution.

Throughout 911ers lifetime, the 911 has been modified by private groups and by the factory for racing and other forms of automotive competition. It is among most successful sports cars ever. In the mid 1970s, Porsche 911 Carrera RSRs won major world championship races such as Targa Florio, Daytona, Sebring and Nürburgring, also against prototypes. The Porsche 911-derived 935 turbo also won the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979.
